The Perfect Fall Day in Charleston, South Carolina
There are some days that just seem to fall perfectly into place, and this was one of them.
The weather knew I had planned the absolute perfect fall day and decided to cooperate accordingly. There was a little crispness in the air, the city was dressed up with so many of the businesses and shops having their fall decor out, and everywhere we went felt like it came straight out of an episode of Gilmore Girls.
If you’re looking for a way to spend a fall day in Charleston that involves good coffee, a delicious breakfast, shopping, an unforgettable dinner, and just the perfect amount of spooky historical vibes, this is the itinerary for you.
So grab your sweater, put on your favorite fall playlist, and let’s spend the perfect fall day in Charleston.
Start the morning with coffee at Harlow and Pearl.

Every good day starts with a fun drink, so we had to start our day at Harlow and Pearl.
I ordered their pumpkin cookie butter iced latte, and it was exactly what I needed out of a coffee. With rich notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, and vanilla topped with a cold foam that gave it the perfect amount of creaminess in combination with the espresso and oat milk, it was essentially a little cup of fall. And did I mention all of their drinks of topped off with a cute little duck? You even get to pick your own color!

As a girl who also loves and appreciates good decor in a business, Harlow and Pearl had the perfect aesthetic, even adding in little bits that were exclusive for fall! Y’all know I’m a sucker for Charlie Brown and they had the Great Pumpkin soundtrack lying on the record player!

Breakfast at Miller’s All Day
After coffee, we headed over to Miller’s All Day for breakfast.
Miller’s All Day is one of Charleston’s most popular breakfast spots, and if you’ve ever watched any review video about Charleston, you’ve probably heard all about it. Because of that I was really excited to finally try it!

For my meal, I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese (B.E.C). This sandwich has bacon, herb mayo, white cheddar, scrambled eggs and is served on a brioche bun. I got a side of fruit to pair with my sandwich. I completely understand why people love this spot. With the cozy decor that feels like a retro diner (there’s even a Photo Booth that you HAVE to use if you visit,) the friendly and quick service, and a fully stocked bar, I personally wouldn’t say this was my favorite breakfast I had on the trip. While I do think it was good, it hung more on the side of “just okay” for me.
And that’s okay!
Sometimes a restaurant can be good without becoming your new favorite place. I still enjoyed getting to experience one of Charleston’s most talked-about breakfast spots, it honestly still made for a good start to the day!

Spend the Afternoon Shopping on King Street.
After breakfast, it was time to wander around King Street.
This might have been one of my favorite parts of the day simply because Charleston was in full fall mode.
Seeing all of the shops decorated for the season made my heart so happy. Pumpkins, autumn colors, cozy displays, and all those little seasonal touches made walking from shop to shop feel like an activity all on its own.
Of course, we did some shopping along the way, and my favorite stop was definitely Sweeter Than Fiction.

My biggest advice for King Street is to leave yourself plenty of time to wander. Don’t make this part of the day too structured. Walk into the stores that catch your eye, stop for pictures, browse the windows, and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s so many unique stops on King Street that all offer their own type of vibe, you definitely want to leave yourself time to go into plenty of different shops!
Dinner at Husk.
After a full day of coffee, breakfast, shopping, and walking around Charleston, it was finally time for dinner.
And this is where I have to say:
Husk was HANDS DOWN my favorite meal we’ve had so far.

I had heard all of the hype surrounding Husk before going, and sometimes when a restaurant is talked about that much, you wonder if it’s actually going to live up to the expectations.
For me, it absolutely did.
Everything about the experience felt special, from the atmosphere to the food, to the exceptional service. After spending the afternoon walking around Charleston, sitting down for a really good dinner felt like the perfect transition into the evening.
If you’re planning a Charleston day of your own, I’d definitely make a reservation ahead of time rather than hoping you’ll be able to walk in as the wait times do get extra long.
This was the meal that made me think, okay, I understand the hype now.
While the menu is seasonal and there’s a chance these items won’t be available in a couple months, here’s everything we tried and loved:
- For the appetizer, we had the Storey Farms Deviled Eggs. With roasted corn and for farm parmesan, this was the perfect savory bite. Super different from the way we make deviled eggs in the south, but I’m still craving them a week later! We also tried the BBQ Beef Ribs. These had Husk’s homemade BBQ sauce, peanuts, cilantro, cowhorn peppers, and a wedge of lime and believe me when I say, these were one of our favorite dishes of the night! I loved these so much that I’m planning to recreate the recipe here at home.

- For dinner, I had the Keegan Filion Pork Chop. Now listen, I’m not someone who normally likes a pork chop but I really wanted to test my luck and I’m so glad I did! This pork chop had mushrooms, fresh banana peppers, and this delicious black pepper gravy. This is the only time I have ever finished an entire pork chop, it was that good! Wade got the Chatel Farms Pastrami Brisket, which was so tender it literally cut like butter. It was served with smoked cheddar, beef fat bordelaise, and this charred cabbage that was the STAR OF THE SHOW! Once I can figure out how to perfect this recipe at home, this will be a Sunday night favorite for us! Finally, we shared a side of the Marsh Hen Mills TN Cheddar Grits, which I was personally a big fan of (Wade, not so much.)

End the night with the Boo-Hag & Brew Ghost Tour.
And because apparently a perfect fall day in Charleston needs a little bit of spooky mixed in, we ended our night with the Boo-Hag and Brew ghost tour with Captain Bryan.
This ended up being such a fun way to finish the day.
Captain Bryan didn’t just tell us spooky stories and send us on our way. What I really appreciated was how much Charleston’s actual history he incorporated into the tour.
He went deep into the history behind the stories, which made the experience so much more interesting for me. There was something about standing in the historic streets at night and hearing these stories while knowing you’re surrounded by so much actual history that made the whole thing feel even more immersive.
And one of my favorite things about the tour was hearing it from someone who is Charleston born and raised.
Bryan brought a perspective and knowledge of the city that really added value to the experience, and I appreciated the respectful way he shared Charleston’s history.
We had such a good time that we’re already talking about bringing more of our loved ones along with us next time.
10/10 recommend.
The best advice for the day? Don’t rush it.
If there’s one thing I’d change about planning a Charleston day, it’s that I wouldn’t try to squeeze too much into it.
The magic was in the little moments — walking around with a coffee, noticing the fall decorations in the windows, wandering into shops we hadn’t planned on visiting, sitting down for dinner after a long day, and ending the night walking through historic Charleston while listening to spooky stories.
Charleston is the kind of city where you really can just wander.
And honestly, that’s exactly what made this day feel so perfect.
The weather was beautiful. The city was dressed for fall. We ate really good food, found some fun things to shop for, learned more about a city we love, and ended the night with just enough spooky to make it feel like October.
If you ask me, that’s a pretty perfect fall day.
